Dementia Friend

A couple of weeks ago I decided to become a Dementia Friend.

Those who know me well, will know that my mother was diagnosed with dementia back in 2014. Since then, I have run a half marathon where I raised over £500 for Dementia UK and now I am looking for other opportunities to help charities that focus on this disease.

I still don’t fully understand dementia and I tend to feel helpless when it comes to handling my Mother’s suffering. But I do know that it is terrifying and an incredible strain on the carer, who in our case is my Dad. I always wish there was more I could do because to see my own Mother struggle to even eat a meal or put on a coat breaks my heart. Dementia continues to take more and more of her away from us.

My aim this year is to help other dementia sufferers and their carers. Becoming a Dementia Friend is the first step. From here, I hope to make someone’s life a little bit easier.

Saturday mooching

Last Saturday started with a walk along Derwent Walk Railway Path with my Auntie and Uncle. Then in the afternoon we did a bit of bird watching in Gibside. Unfortunately I didn’t capture much of that apart from a couple of tits (don’t laugh). We did see a woodpecker and a red kite later on before we got back in the car, but they were too far away to take a picture. Despite the dreary weather, it was still a nice day.

On The Quayside

I spent Good Friday afternoon walking down the The Quayside in Newcastle with some of my family. After a 4 and a half hour drive spent mainly in stationary traffic on the A1, it was nice to get out and have a nice walk. Although it was windy and a wee bit chilly, it was still sunny enough to take a few snaps. I hope you like them…

A new home

I have decided to start a brand new blog – welcome to ‘twidderslife’.

This means the days of my old blog Cats and Tats and More are no more, but thank you to anyone who visited there and read any of my posts 🙂

A big part of my decision to set up on here is because some of my friends post on here too. Please do check out their blogs because they are all awesome:
